Panama, Canada and Cuba undefeated in the U18 World Cup qualifier in Panama City

(Press Release; WBSC AMERICAS BASEBALL).- The Pan American tournament, qualifier for the U18 World Cup, continued with Canada, Cuba and Panama remaining undefeated and the United States in a resounding debut.

Canada shutout and took advantage of Nicaragua's errors to beat them 1-0, with great work by pitcher Michael Yusypchuk who pitched a complete game to take the victory, allowing just two hits with eight strikeouts.

Mexico also beat Guatemala 6-0, three pitchers combined to allow just two hits, Juan Fraide being the winner, striking out nine.

Puerto Rico recovered after a defeat in its debut by beating Brazil 8 to 4, Adonys Velez stood out on offense by going 2 for 3 with a run scored and two RBIs in addition to hitting the first home run of the tournament, while Jonathan Matos left 4-3 with scored and pushed.

The United States debuted with a resounding 18-0 victory against Costa Rica, Kayson Cunningham went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and four RBIs, while Brayden Jaksa went 2-for-2 with three runs scored and four RBIs.

Panama remained undefeated by beating Venezuela 3 to 1, key was the relief work of Anthony Ortega by throwing two scoreless innings with two strikeouts to get the rescue.

Finally, Cuba defeated the Dominican Republic 5 to 1, taking advantage of errors on defense. Three pitchers combined to lead the team to victory, Christian Rojas pitched five innings allowing one run for the victory and Cristian Rego got the save with two scoreless innings and two strikeouts.

Canada, Mexico and Cuba share the top of their group with a record of two wins without losses, while Panama dominates the other group with the same record, as the tournament reaches its third day.
