United States faces Mexico, Panama vs Nicaragua, Venezuela vs Cuba and Puerto Rico vs Canada in the quarterfinals of the U18 World Cup qualifier

(Nota de Prensa; WBSC AMERICAS BEISBOL).- El Premundial U18 llegó a los cuartos de final con ocho equipos buscando tres puestos en el podio de las medallas del evento.

(Press Release; WBSC AMERICAS BASEBALL).- The U18 World Cup qualifier reached the quarterfinals with eight teams seeking three places on the medal podium of the event.

Mexico will play as a visitor against the United States at Rod Carew stadium at 9:30am, at 7pm it will be Nicaragua visiting the host Panama. Meanwhile, Venezuela visits Cuba at 9:30am at the Juan Demóstenes Arosemena stadium and Canada will host Puerto Rico at 1pm.

The Opening Round finished with three games that were dominated by Canada, Nicaragua and Venezuela respectively, all of whom qualified for the next round.

Venezuela closed the Opening Round by beating Costa Rica 11-0 in six innings. Carlos Pernalete pitched complete game for the victory, allowing just one hit with twelve strikeouts.

Meanwhile, Marcelo Villarroel stood out offensively by hitting 3-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI, while Jennerson Pérez went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, two RBIs and a walk. Misael Sánchez also went 3-for-4 with three runs scored.

Nicaragua beat Guatemala 11 to 1 also in six innings, Melvin Cerda won by throwing five innings of one earned run, with two walks and three strikeouts. While Kenly Hunter went 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBIs.

Finally, Canada beat El Salvador 13 to 0 in five innings early, Adyn Schell worked a complete game allowing one hit, one walk and nine strikeouts to secure the victory. Dante Smith stood out on offense, going 1 for 2 with two runs scored and four RBIs, Leo Cote went 1 for 3 with three RBIs and Fedorak Baker went 1 for 2 with a run scored and three RBIs.
