(Press Release; WBSC AMERICAS BASEBALL).- The South American U18 tournament culminated with victories in the Medal Round for Argentina and Venezuela, which, together with Brazil, make up the tournament podium.
For Argentina it was the turn to play for the bronze medal, in a very competitive duel against Peru that was not decided until the locals scored six in the sixth inning to finally win 9 to 5.
Offensively for Argentina, Nicolás Hiki stood out, going 1 for 3 with a run scored and two RBIs, Thomas Ligorria went 3 for 4 with two runs scored and two RBIs, while Mateo García went 1 for 1 with two RBIs.
The victory allows Argentina to stand on the podium, this time, with the bronze medal of the tournament.
In the final, Venezuela came from behind and in a very close and competitive game beat Brazil 2 to 1, thus finishing the tournament undefeated and standing on top of the event's podium as champion.
Heizon Sarramera was vital on the mound, throwing the complete route for victory, in seven innings he allowed three hits, one earned run, no walks and struck out eight opponents.
Offensively, Francisco Peñaloza went 1 for 3 with a run scored, while Germain Ávila went 1 for 2 with the other run scored for Venezuela.
In this way, the South American U18 tournament concludes with Venezuela undefeated champion, Brazil as silver medalist and Argentina winning the bronze.
