Dominican Republic wins the gold, Venezuela and Colombia will play for silver

(Press Release; WBSC-AMERICAS).- Dominican Republic beat Colombia and Venezuela won over Peru to and the podiums is almost set in the XIX edition of the baseball tournament in the Bolivarian Games.

Dominican Republic won the gold by beating Colombia 6-2, they now show a 5-1 record that the host nation (3-2) can´t reach, so they will have to settle for playing for the silver on tuesday.

Alfredo Figaro shined for the Dominican Republic by pitching six innings, tolerating six hits, two earned runs and one strikeout to guide his nation to the gold medal in Colombia.

Stanley Javier helped by going 3-3 with two runs batted in, Luis Guzman chipped in with one scored and one driven in while going 2-3 and Wandherley del Rosario went 1-2 with a run scored and an RBI.

Meanwhile Venezuela beat Peru by a 6-5 score in dramatic fashion, to push their record to 2-3 and secured at least a chance to play for silver. Peru will not be able to win any medals as they fell to 1-5.

Peru sent the tying run to the plate with one out in the ninth, but got gunned down at home and in the same play they put out another runner on third for a game ending doble play.

For Venezuela Beicker Mendoza homered as he went 2-2 with one run scored and two driven in. José García also homered as he hit 1-4 with one scored and two RBI.  Junell Ledezma went 2-3 with a run scored and an RBI.

Colombia will host Venezuela on tuesday with a confortable advantage to win the silver, Venezuela must beat the host nation by KO if they want to leave with the silver medal.
