(Press Release; WBSC AMERICAS BASEBALL) - The U12 World Cup Qualifier in Panama played its second
day of the tournament with another victory for the Dominican Republic which
reaches 2-0 record.
The
6-1 victory of the Dominican Republic against Cuba, came at the hands of
Brandon Baez who hit a home run, in total he went 3-for-2 with a run scored and
three runs batted in. Carlos Marrero and Milfree Figueroa combined for six
innings in which they allowed just two hits, one earned run, with four walks
and eleven strikeouts.
On
the other hand, Puerto Rico needed five innings to defeat Argentina 10-0.
Deniel Rodríguez went 3-for-2 with a run scored and two runs batted in, while
Roberto Melendez hit 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two runs batted in.
Colombia
debuted with an 8-0 victory against Ecuador, with a win for Maichael Fontalvo
who in four innings tolerated two hits, three walks and six strikeouts. Sherson
Sabalza got the save, throwing two innings of one hit, one walk and three
strikeouts.
Venezuela
also debuted with a victory by shutting out Brazil 3-0, with Anthoan Maldonado
working complete game, tolerating two hits, one walk and three strikeouts. On
offense, Carlos Gutiérrez went 2-for-2 with a run scored and a run batted in.
The
United States beat Nicaragua 9-1, with Joshua Pierre hitting 4-for-3 with three
runs scored and one run batted in. Carlo Rivero also went 3-for-3 with three
runs batted in and one run scored.
Finally, Panama defeated
Mexico 4-1, Andy Ortega went 3-for-1 with two RBI, while the winner was Yuriel
García who in two innings struck out five, tolerating one hit and one run
batted in.
A day of eight games will be
played on Tuesday, Nicaragua (Cristofer Acosta) against Colombia (Leiner
Moreno) at 8:30am at Rod Carew. At 10:30am Mexico (Nelson Cantu) goes against
the United States (Clayton Ratliff) and at 12:30pm Colombia (to be determined)
faces Panama (Aldahir Gutierrez). Then at 7pm Panama (Mark Jimenez) plays
against Ecuador (Martin Lopez).
Meanwhile at the Andy Alonso
stadium at 8:30am Cuba (Rydel Perez) goes against Argentina (Thomas Tolaba),
then at 10:30am Brazil (Raul Jusfredo) goes against Puerto Rico (Ryan Ayala),
at 12:30pm Argentina (To be determined) goes against Venezuela (Victor Casique)
and at 2:30pm Dominican Republic (Justin Santana) goes against Venezuela (To be
determined).
