(Press Release; WBSC-AMERICAS BASEBALL).- The countries of America returned to the podium of the
U23 Baseball World Cup in China, after being absent in the previous edition,
with Puerto Rico winning silver and Nicaragua bronze.
Japan
dominated the final and won 5-0 to take the gold, Puerto Rico, which had won
all its games in the Super Round, was unable to decipher the Asian pitching in
the final.
Only
Luis Hernández was able to double the hits by going 2-for-3, while Luis Rivera
took the loss by allowing two runs (one earned) in 1.1 innings pitched in which
he allowed three hits and struck out two.
For
its part, Nicaragua took revenge on China by winning the bronze by a score of 3
to 1, after the hosts of the tournament had beaten them in the last duel of the
Super Round.
Stanling
Ororzo led his team to the podium by winning the game, pitching six innings in
which he allowed five hits and one earned run, with one walk and six
strikeouts. While Bryan Torres got the save by pitching a scoreless inning with
a walk and a strikeout.
On
offense, Emanuel Trujillo went 1 for 3 with two RBIs, while Godwin Bennett went
1 for 1 with a run scored and another RBI, in addition to two walks received.
Puerto
Rico finishes in second place, Nicaragua third, Venezuela sixth and Colombia
tenth, in the performance of the American teams in this edition of the U23
World Cup.
