Puerto Rico will play for gold and Nicaragua seeks bronze in the U23 World Cup

(Press Release; WBSC-AMERICAS BASEBALL).- The countries of America continue to be protagonists in the U23 World Cup in China, Puerto Rico reaches the final undefeated by beating Venezuela 3 to 0, while Nicaragua fell 4 to 0 to China , but will seek to get even in the game for bronze.

For its part, Colombia said goodbye by falling 7 to 3 against the Netherlands in the Placement Round of the tournament.

Puerto Rico remained undefeated in the Super Round with the 3-0 victory against Venezuela, which finally left its rival out of the Medal Round.

Jankel Ortiz went 1 for 2 with a run scored, Daniel Figueroa also went 1 for 2 with a run scored and Osvaldo Torres went 1 for 2 with an RBI.

The victory went to relief pitcher Yadiel Cuadrado who, in 1.2 innings of work, allowed two hits and two walks. The save went to Carlos Roses who struck out an opponent in one inning.

Nicaragua was unable to beat the host China, which with its 4-0 victory was able to advance to the Medal Round, leaving out Venezuela and Korea.

Samuel Duadamuz fell for Nicaragua, who in 0.2 innings allowed three hits, with two earned runs and a walk. Five different players got a hit for Nicaragua, but without being able to score runs.

Finally, Colombia could not beat the Netherlands and the 7-3 defeat was their farewell to the World Cup in China.

For Colombia, Dario Borrero stood out on offense, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while Jean Henao went 1-for-4 with runs scored and RBIs.

Ultimately Puerto Rico will play Japan for the gold and Nicaragua will face China for the bronze.
