BASEBALL).- The VI U15 World Cup Qualifier Championship
that took place in Boca Chica, Dominican Republic came to a great ending, worthy
of the best baseball in the world.
Puerto Rico won the
championship against the Dominican Republic by beating them by a score of 5 to
4 in an exciting game that they started winning 3-0 and were down 3-4 late
before the final comeback.
The most valuable of the game
was catcher Edward Piñeiro who went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored.
Meanwhile, the bronze medal
went to Mexico, who beat Nicaragua 3 to 1, another close duel for third place
that was part of a day of great baseball.
The best in the game was first
baseman Francisco del Campo who went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a double, to make
the difference in the duel for his team with his offense.
Venezuela won the last spot
for the World Cup by beating Brazil in a close game, 7 to 5 in dramatic fashion
by walking them of with a two-run home run.
Jesús Chávez was the
protagonist of the homer and the most valuable player of the game, going
2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs as a result of that home run to left.
The podium finished with
Puerto Rico in first place winning the trophy and the gold medal, the Dominican
Republic won silver and Mexico the bronze, they will be the representatives of
America in the World Cup along with Nicaragua that finished fourth and
Venezuela that was fifth.
The other member of America
that will play in the World Cup will be Colombia, hosting the event in
Barranquilla scheduled to be held between August 16 and 25.
