(Press Release; WBSC-AMERICAS BASEBALL).- Panama and Argentina will play for the chance to travel to the Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile, when they meet in the final this Wednesday at 11am.
Canada did its part to continue aspiring for the final by knocking out Honduras in five innings by score 10-0, but it was not enough, Panama's victory left them without a chance.
Offensively for Canada, Jake Sanford stood out, going 2-for-4 with a run scored and three RBIs, while Michael Crouse went 1-for-1 with a run scored and two RBIs. Jordan Procyshen also stood out by going 1-for-2 with a run scored and another RBI.
Travis Sabrooke pitched a complete game, in five innings he allowed just two hits, with five strikeouts to secure the win.
The Canadian triumph allowed them to continue in the race for the final, but Panama beat Argentina 7-2 and by ending their undefeated record, they not only left the North Americans out of the final, but they will have the home club advantage in the final.
Edgar Muñoz stood out offensively for Panama, who went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs. While Gertrudis Telló hit a solo home run in his only at-bat.
Luis Ramos secured the victory by not allowing runs in five innings, in which he allowed just three hits with two walks and eight strikeouts.
The final will be on Wednesday at 11am, for Argentina, which will be a visitor, right-hander Luis Ramos will be on the mound, while for Panama, which will be a home club, the also right-hander Manuel Campos will start. The winner will advance to the Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile.
