(Press Release; WBSC AMERICAS BASEBALL).- The American teams were once again protagonists of the
Group Round being played in Mexico, in which the United States, Panama and the
host won.
Panama
was the first to score victory by defeating Venezuela 4 to 2, highlighting
relievers Kenny Hernández (winner) and Enrique Burgos (save) by pitching 5.1 shutout
innings in which they struck out four.
Jhonny
Santos went 2 for 3 with a run scored and another RBI, Edgar Muñoz went 2 for 4
with a run scored and RBI to be the offensive spark plug for the Central
American team.
The
United States beat the Netherlands by knockout 12 to 2 in eight innings, like
Panama, they leveled their record at 1-1. Offensively, Matt Shaw went 4-for-5
with three runs scored and seven RBIs, while Chandler Simpson went 2-for-3 with
three runs scored and two walks.
Mexico
won their first game of the tournament against Puerto Rico 7 to 5, to level the
group at 1-1 for all opponents.
Alonso
Gaitán went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs, while José Rojas went
1-for-3 with runs scored and three RBIs.
The
competition continues on Monday with Venezuela hosting the United States at the
Coloso del Pacífico Stadium, with Zac Grotz and Mario Sánchez on the mound.
While at the Pan American stadium Mexico receives Panama with Wilfredo Pereira
and Teddy Stankiewicz on the mound.
