(Press Release; WBSC AMERICAS BASEBALL).- The U18 World Cup qualifier continued this Monday with victories that consolidate Panama, the United States and Cuba as the best in this tournament.
It all started with a comeback win by Nicaragua at the Rod Carew Stadium that allowed them to achieve their first victory of the tournament against the Dominican Republic, with three in the seventh they won 6 to 5.
Standing out for Nicaragua on offense were César Aguilera who went 1 for 3 with a run scored and two RBIs, while Julio Urbina plated one by going 1 for 3.
Guatemala also achieved its first victory of the tournament by beating El Salvador 7 to 1. Juan Diego stood out offensively by going 2 for 5 with two RBIs, while Alejandro Ispache pitched three scoreless innings with four hits, one walk and six strikeouts to secure the victory.
The United States remained undefeated by shutting out Venezuela 6 to 0, four pitchers were sent to the mound and Cooper Rummel scored the victory in two innings of relief.
Cuba remained undefeated by beating Mexico 3 to 2 in a game in which they only had one hit courtesy of Brian Garzon who scored one. On the mound Silvio Herrera pitched five innings for the win, allowing three hits, two earned runs with two walks and two strikeouts. Cristian Rego got the save by throwing two scoreless innings with one strikeout.
Finally, Panama remained undefeated by beating Brazil 2 to 1 in a walk of victory, Anthony Ortega pitched 4.2 innings allowing five hits, striking out three and no runs to take the win. Abel Cubillas and Julio Casas had one RBI each.
