(Press Release; WBSC-AMERICAS BASEBALL).- Panama, Argentina and Canada are the teams that aspire to be in the final, when the decisive day of the Opening Round is played this Tuesday.
The victories of Canada and Panama on Monday made it clear that they will fight until the end along with Argentina, who had a rest day, for the two places in the final of the Pan American Games Qualifier.
Canada did not blink against Peru and beat them 11-1 in seven innings to stay on the right track.
For the Americans, Jake Sanford stood out offensively by going 4-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs, in addition to Jordan Procyshen who went 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBIs. Also, Wesley Darvill batted 1-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs.
Karl Gelinas got the win by working four innings allowing one run on of five hits.
In the other game of the day, Panama shutout Honduras 4-0 and thus remains in the race for the final.
Luis Machucha led the way by pitching five scoreless innings, in which he allowed three hits with six strikeouts to secure the win.
The offense was led by Erasmo Caballero who went 4-for-4 with an RBI, in addition to Edgar Muñoz who went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and one RBI.
Canada will host Honduras as home club this Tuesday at 11am, they are forced to win to keep alive the opportunity to be in the final. Panama will be a visitor against Argentina at 3pm and it is enough to win to be in the final.
