Nicaragua remains undefeated and Honduras wins in the Central American qualifier

(Press release; WBSC-AMERICAS).- The Honduran teams achieved their first victory in the Central American qualifier, while the host Nicaragua remains undefeated in the tournament.

On the second day of play, the Honduran and Nicaraguan teams were overwhelming in their victories, the Hondurans beat Guatemala 10-2 as visitors and the Nicaraguans shutout and pounded on Costa Rica 13-0 also as visitors.

Honduras sealed the game in the fourth inning, already with the scoreboard favoring them 2-0, they scored six in that episode that ended up marking the end for their Guatemalan rivals.

Lombardo Padilla stood out by going 1-for-5 but with one run scored and four RBIs, while José Cardona went 1-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs and Kevin Reyes went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Darlyn Rodríguez won the game by working five innings in which he struck out eight, allowing four hits, with four walks and receiving a run.

For its part, Nicaragua was much better than Costa Rica, a game in which their rivals could manage only three hits and in which a five-run rally in the second inning sealed the game.

Three pitchers combined for Nicaragua, Leonardo Crawford was the winner by striking out six in five innings, receiving two hits for the victory. Junior Tellez and Joaquín Acuña combined for two scoreless innings, receiving one hit, one walk and three strikeouts.

Offensively, Iván Marín stood out, going 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI, Isaac Benard went 2-for-4 with a run scored and three RBIs, and Noriando Valle went 1-for-3 with two runs scored, one RBI, and walked twice.
