(Press Release; WBSC-AMERICAS BASEBALL).- The Baseball5 Pan American tournament that takes place
in Barquisimeto, Venezuela, already knows its three qualified nations for the
Hong Kong World Cup, for America: Cuba, Venezuela and Mexico will participate.
Saturday's
play determined the other two countries that would accompany Cuba to the World
Cup, finally Mexico and Venezuela obtained their ticket and America's quota is
complete.
Venezuela
fell to Cuba in three sets by score 7 to 0, 4 to 6 and 9 to 3, but recovered
later with a victory against Mexico by two sets with scores 3 to 2 and 11 to 0
respectively.
Meanwhile, Mexico also beat Puerto Rico in three sets,
the Puerto Ricans took the first set 5-4, but the Mexicans came back with two
shutouts 5-0 and 11-0 to secure the win.
In
the last duel of the day, Puerto Rico had the opportunity to advance to the
World Cup by beating Cuba, but the world champions would have none of it, and
beat them in two sets by scores 15 to 0 and 5 to 0.
On
Sunday, Mexico will clash with Venezuela at 11am, the winner will meet Cuba at
1pm to determine the champion, these three nations are all qualified for the
World Cup in Hong Kong.
The
qualifying tournament in America is the next to last to be defined, as the
confederations of Asia, Europe and Africa are defined, with the Oceania quota
and the wild card to be determined.
