(Press Release; WBSC-AMERICAS).- The U18 World Cup Qualifier will be held in La Paz, Baja California Sur, with the participation of ten nations that will be looking for four places in the World Cup.
Group A will be played in La Paz, Ciudad de Constitución and Todos Santos and will have as members the hosts of Mexico, as well as the Dominican Republic, Cuba, Panama and Nicaragua.
Meanwhile, in Group B that will be played in San José del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas, United States, Venezuela, Canada, Puerto Rico and Peru will play each other.
Four places are at stake for the World Cup, in a tournament in which there are plenty of talented teams, all with the intention of reaching that coveted spot in the international event.
Mexico (4th), the United States (5th) and Venezuela (6th), are the best teams in the tournament by WBSC ranking. Mexico and the United States are the best ranked in America (1st and 2nd), while Venezuela is 3rd in the ranking.
The United States is the defending champion of the Pan American U18, achieving the trophy in 2018 when it was last held in Panama. On that occasion, Panama, Nicaragua and Canada also reached the World Cup.
The United States is also the World Champion in the category after winning this year in Florida by overcoming Chinese Taipei in the final, approaching Cuba as the top winner of the tournament.
In fact, the United States has won five of the last six World Cups in the U18 category, while it has been champion of the last five Pan American championships in the category.
