(Press Release; WBSC-AMERICAS).- The United States and Venezuela won again in the U12 World Cup to stay at the top of their standings, while the Dominican Republic fell for the first time, Mexico and Panama with two defeats.
The United States defeated Panama 6-4 in a close game, with three runs that defined the game in the fifth inning.
Zaylon Johnson stood out offensively by going 2-for-2 with two runs scored and one RBI, while Gavin Gómez got the win by pitching three innings in which he surrendered four hits, with an unearned run, a walk and four strikeouts.
Venezuela, with an offense of 13 hits and taking advantage of six rival errors, beat Australia 19-2 to win their second of the tournament.
Francys Sandoval excelled on the mound by throwing four innings in which she allowed four hits, with two runs (one earned), two walks and eight strikeouts to win. Offensively, José Castillo stood out, going 2-2 with two runs scored and three RBIs.
Mexico was defeated for the second time in the tournament, in this case it was Chinese Taipei that beat them 5 to 3.
For Mexico, Maximiliano Ortega stood out offensively, going 1-for-3 with runs scored and two RBIs.
Finally, the Dominican Republic lost their first game of the tournament when they were walked off by Korea 9-8.
Raiyer González stood out offensively for the Dominican Republic, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBIs.
