(Press Release; WBSC-AMERICAS BASEBALL).- The United States and Mexico national teams remain unbeaten after two days of the U12 World Cup qualifier in Aguascalientes, while the Dominican Republic and Panama add their first victories.
The Dominican Republic leveled its record 1-1 by beating Puerto Rico 5-4, the Dominicans had lost their first game by forfeit, while their rivals fell to 0-2 in the tournament.
Carlos Marrero stood out for the Dominican, scoring two runs, while Railyn Cabrera threw two scoreless innings with three strikeouts for the win. Andri De La Cruz got the save by pitching 0.2 scoreless innings.
Panama came from behind in a one run duel against Cuba to finally win 12-11, leveling the record for both, after the Central Americans lost to the hosts on the first day and the islanders won their first game by forfeit.
Yunieski Sánchez went 1-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs and Alain Cruz also drove in two, going 2-for-4. Additionally, Roger Vásquez also went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs.
Mexico maintained its undefeated status by knocking out Brazil in five innings 19-4, with a rally of nine in the first inning and seven in the second, product of four home runs.
Esteban Gallardo hit two home runs by going 3-for-3 with three runs scored and four RBIs, while his teammate Ángel Ponce hit another two homers, ultimately going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and six RBIs.
In the most exciting game of the tournament, the United States defeated Venezuela by a score of 25-24 to remain undefeated. Game in which 15 home runs were connected between both teams.
