(Press Release; WBSC AMERICAS).- The U18 World Cup Qualifier reaches its Super Round stage with the United States as the only undefeated team, accompanied by Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Panama, Cuba and the host Mexico.
The Opening Round ended with two resounding victories for Venezuela 24-0 against Peru and for the United States 10-4 against Canada to maintain their undefeated streak heading into the Super Round.
Offensively, Eduardo Herrera stood out for Venezuela, hitting 2 for 4 with two runs scored and five RBIs. Also, Marcos Torres went 2 for 3 with an RBI and four runs scored.
For the United States, Campbell Smithwick stood out, hitting 2-for-5 with a run scored and three RBIs. While Casey Borba was 1 for 4 with a rub scored and two RBIs and PJ Morlando hit 2 for 4 with two RBIs and a run scored.
The Super Round kicks off on Thursday with three games, Nicaragua visiting Puerto Rico, Panama also as visitor versus the United States and Mexico as the home team against Venezuela. The Placement Round will also be played, starting with Peru visiting Canada.
On Friday, the Super Round matches continue with Nicaragua visiting Venezuela, Puerto Rico doing the same against Panama and the United States being the home team against Mexico. Meanwhile Cuba hosts Peru in the Placement Round.
The Super Round ends on Saturday with the United States as the home club against Nicaragua, Venezuela as visitors against Panama and Mexico as visitors against Puerto Rico. Canada also hosts Cuba in the Placement Round.
The top two teams in the Super Round will compete for the trophy and gold medal, while the third and fourth will play for the bronze. Those first four teams will have a place for the World Cup.
