(Press Release; WBSC AMERICAS BASEBALL) - The U12 World Cup Qualifier in Panama has defined its finalists, the United States will be visitor against the Dominican Republic for the trophy and the gold medal, while Cuba will visit against Panama for the bronze medal.
The United States made it to
the final with a 6-0 shutout victory over Cuba, a game dominated by Carlo
Rivero in 4.2 innings in which he tolerated one hit, no runs, with three walks
and two strikeouts, but also hit a 3-2 home run with two runs scored and two
runs batted in.
Meanwhile, the Dominican
Republic needed extra-innings to beat Panama 3-2. The winning hit came from
Caonabo Cosme who finished 1-1 with two runs batted in.
In the Qualifying Round,
Ecuador dominated Argentina 15-2 in five innings to close with a victory.
Marcelo Averos, who went 2-2 with a run scored and two runs batted in, was the player
of the game.
Brazil needed seven innings to
beat Colombia 3-1 with a three-run homer by hitting 3-2 with two runs scored
and three runs batted in.
Venezuela blanked Nicaragua
with six innings of work by Braulio Urbina who allowed only two hits, no runs,
four tickets and five strikeouts.
Mexico defeated Puerto Rico
7-2 with Iker Sepulveda, who hit a home run and went 3-2 with two runs scored
and three runs batted in.
The United States will be away
against the Dominican Republic for the gold medal on Saturday at 12:30pm at Rod
Carew Stadium, but before that, at 9:30am Cuba visits Panama for the bronze
medal.
