(Press Release; WBSC-AMERICAS).- The United States easily took the gold medal of the U18 World Cup and closes the tournament undefeated, while Mexico had no problem winning the bronze medal.
The United States had no rival during the tournament and their convincing victory in the final 11-1 against Panama simply ratified the favoritism of this team during the event.
The ten runs produced by the United States in the fifth inning were the final blow in a game in which Panama kept up the fight during the first four innings.
All of the United States' starting players in the final had at least one RBI and scored one. Especially highlighting Nazzan Zanatello who batted 3 for 3 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Roman Martin went 2 for 3 with a run scored and RBI and so did Daniel Arambula.
Meanwhile, the host Mexico managed to reach the podium of the tournament with another resounding victory against Venezuela, this time by knockout in five innings and a final score of 10 to 0.
Alexis Parra won the game by shutting out Venezuela for five innings, barely giving up a walk and receiving three hits, while striking out five rivals to guide Mexico to victory.
Offensively for Mexico, Ichiro Canó stood out, batting 2 for 3 with one run scored and three RBIs, while Sergio Gastelum batted 3 for 3 with one run scored and five RBIs.
The podium is occupied by the United States as champion, Panama with the silver medal and Mexico with the bronze, while Venezuela is fourth team qualified for the U18 World Cup.
