(Press Release; WBSC AMERICAS BASEBALL).- The
VI World Cup Qualifier Championship held in Boca Chica, Dominican Republic
reaches the Medal Round with a classic baseball duel in the final.
Puerto Rico reached the final
to face the Dominican Republic by beating Venezuela 11 to 2 and closing their
group on top and undefeated.
It will be, along with the
Dominican Republic, the only undefeated team in the tournament; the hosts also
closed the Opening Round without defeats, beating Brazil by a score of 13 to 3.
The bronze medal will be played
between Nicaragua and Mexico, both won to qualify to the World Cup and get into
the dispute for third place.
Nicaragua beat Cuba by a score
of 11 to 1 to eliminate them from the dispute for a place in the World Cup,
Mexico did the same with Panama by defeating them in their confrontation by a
score of 8 to 2.
For its part, the Bahamas finished
the tournament with a victory against Argentina by beating them by a score of
18 to 11. The WBSC team did the same against Peru by knocking them out 17 to 0.
On Thursday the medals are
disputed at 10:30 Nicaragua and Mexico are going for the bronce medal, while
Venezuela and Brazil are playing for the last place in the World Cup. At 2:30pm
the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico will play for the champion trophy.
