(Press Release; WBSC-AMÉRICAS
BASEBALL).- Panama will host the Pan-American U12
tournament, a qualifier for the World Cup of the category that opens on October
19.
Eleven teams will be competing
for one of the three places to be in the World Cup and accompany Panama as the
representatives of America in one of the most fun categories that this sport
has.
Panama will participate in the
tournament, but has already qualified for the World Cup in the category by
hosting the qualifier, so the other eleven participating countries will be
competing for those three available spots.
Group A is made up of the
United States, Mexico, Colombia, Nicaragua, Ecuador and the host Panama. While
in group B Venezuela, Dominican Republic, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Brazil and
Argentina.
Almost 200 players will be
competing in one of the most fun categories in sport, looking for one of those
three sought-after passes to the World Cup in the category and continue adding
points to the WBSC ranking.
The United States is the
current world and world cup qualifier champion in the category, but the parity
of this specific tournament has highlighted it as one of the most entertaining
in the sport.
Panama once again takes on the
challenge, just as it did with the U18 World Cup qualifier, to put on a
spectacular show to crown a champion and distribute the spots for the
category's World Cup.
The World Cup is scheduled to
take place next year in Chinese Taipei, with Panama and three other qualifiers
from America seeking to be at the top of the podium in the U12 category.
