(Press Release; WBSC AMERICAS BASEBALL).- The U12 Baseball World Cup Qualifier will take place
from October 20 to 26 in Panama City, seeking three countries to accompany
Panama to the World Cup in this category.
The
event calendar indicates that the action begins on Sunday, October 20, which
will take place at the Rod Carew and Andy Alonso stadiums in Panama City.
Two
groups of six teams make up the tournament. In Group A the hosts of the event,
Panama, along with the United States, Mexico, Colombia, Nicaragua and Ecuador.
Meanwhile,
in Group B the national teams of Venezuela, the Dominican Republic, Cuba and
Puerto Rico, powerhouses of this sport, accompanied by Brazil and Argentina.
The
first day of competition will be packed with action. At 9am (local time) Brazil
will visit the Dominican Republic at Andy Alonso Stadium, while at 9:30am the game
between Mexico, which will be the home team, and Nicaragua at Rod Carew
Stadium.
At
11:45am at Andy Alonso Stadium, Cuba will play Puerto Rico at home, while at
1pm at Rod Carew Stadium, Ecuador will visit the United States.
Meanwhile,
Argentina will visit Venezuela at Andy Alonso Stadium at 2:30pm, and at 5:30pm
the Opening Ceremony is scheduled at Rod Carew Stadium, before the 7pm game
between Colombia and host Panama.
Panama
has already qualified for the World Cup by hosting the World Cup Qualifier, so
the remaining eleven teams will compete for one of the three remaining spots at
the big event.
The
top two in each group will advance to the semifinals, and all will be qualified
if Panama reaches the semifinals. Otherwise, those who occupy the podium will
be advancing to the World Cup.
