(Press Release; WBSC-AMERICAS BASEBALL).- The Pan American Baseball5 tournament came to a close in
Barquisimeto, Venezuela, crowning the national team of Cuban as champion, meanwhile
Mexico obtained silver and Venezuela bronze, all of them qualified for the Hong
Kong World Cup.
The
protagonists of Sunday's morning game were Mexico and Venezuela who were
playing for a place in the final, the hosts jumped ahead with a 5 to 2 victory,
but Mexico came from behind and with scores of 8 to 2 and 3 to 2 to surprise to
the home crowd, earning their place in the final.
In
the decisive game, Cuba and Mexico met with the victory going to the world
champions with scores of 8 to 1 and 6 to 4, which allowed them to maintain
their undefeated record.
Briandy
Molina, the captain of the Cuban team, and his teammate Chaquira Azpiazu were
named the most valuable players of the tournament, leading their teams to the
top of the podium.
In
addition, they were both named to the “All Star” team of the tournament,
accompanied by Luis Bencomo and Paulina Ojeda from Mexico, as well as Luis Marquez
from Venezuela.
Cuba,
Mexico and Venezuela will be the participants from the American continent in
the Baseball5 World Cup that will be held in October in Hong Kong.
