AMERICAS BASEBALL).- The baseball tournament of the Pan American Games that
takes place at the Bicentenario of Cerrillos stadium in Santiago, Chile reaches
its decisive stage. The Medal Round will be contested by the best four in the
tournament.
Colombia defeated Panama 2 to
1 in a close duel that was decided in the last inning to ratify its place in
the final and thus consolidate both teams in Group B as the best.
For Colombia, Fabián Pertuz
went 3-for-4 with an RBI, which marked the difference in the game, while
Francisco Acuña went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
On the mound, Rubén Galindo
pitched two scoreless innings, in which he allowed one hit, with two strikeouts
to secure the victory.
In the second game of the day,
Mexico ended Brazil's undefeated streak by a score of 5 to 1 with a four-run
rally in the sixth inning, ending the Amazonians' dominance.
Fernando Flores stood out for
Mexico by going 2 for 3 with two RBIs, while Fernando Villegas went 2 for 4
with a run scored. On the mound, Francisco Haro worked a scoreless inning in
relief, with a hit received to secure the win.
The teams from Group A, Mexico
and Panama, will play for bronze this Friday morning, while Brazil and Colombia
from Group B will settle in the afternoon for the final.
