(Press Release; WBSC AMERICAS BASEBOL).- The teams of Brazil, Cuba, Colombia and Venezuela will play trying to reach the Super Round of the Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile,
Brazil needed nine innings, but came from behind, to beat Colombia 8 to 7. With that result, they take a step closer to qualifying, as they depend solely on their destiny.
Brazil came back from 4 to 0 down and then extinguished comeback attempts in the eighth and ninth innings and finally beat Colombia.
For Brazil, Víctor Mascai was the most valuable by going 2-for-4 with two RBIs and one run scored, while Oscar Nakaoshi took the win by pitching 1.1 innings in which one earned run.
In the other game, Venezuela also came from behind to beat Cuba 6 to 3 in a vital duel to keep its aspirations alive, preventing the Cubans from qualifying, along with Brazil, directly. Venezuela also overcame an adverse score of 0 to 3 in the first inning to end up winning 6 to 5, which sets the table for any of the fout teams on the last day.
For Venezuela, Engleb Vielma stood out, going 2-2 with a run scored and a walk, while Juan Carlos Torres went 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI, the result of a home run. That leaves the table set for the last day, in which Brazil, Cuba, Colombia and Venezuela play for the two spots in the Super Round.
