(Press Release; WBSC-AMERICAS BASEBALL).- Argentina overcame Canada to remain undefeated in the Qualifier, while Peru achieved its first victory of the tournament by defeating Honduras.
The Peruvian team, with a four-run rally in the sixth inning, beat Honduras 4-0, shutout in their debut in the tournament.
For Peru, they took advantage of Rider Zevallos' timely batting, who went 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI, while Joaquín Velez went 2-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored.
But the important difference was on the mound Ken Ishihara in seven innings left Honduras with four hits, allowed one walk and one struck out, without allowing runs to score the victory.
Peru had been defeated on the first day by Argentina, but recovered against Honduras, who had a rest on the first day and was shutout in their debut in the tournament.
In the other game, Argentina scored in the first inning and never looked back, to finally beat Canada 8-3 to remain undefeated in the tournament.
Offensively, Alejandro García stood out, who went 2-for-5 with two RBIs and one scored. While Exequiel Talevi went 1-for-3 with a run scored and two RBIs.
Six pitchers from Argentina combined to give up just three earned runs and despite walking nine and striking out just four, they earned their second win in a row.
Peru will look for their second win in a row on Sunday as homeclub against Panama at 11am, while Argentina looks to preserve their unbeaten record when they host Honduras at 3pm.
