Argentina remains undefeated and Panama levels its record in the qualifier

(Press Release; WBSC-AMERICAS BASEBALL).- Argentina continues without defeat, while Panama achieves its first victory and evens its record, after Sunday's qualifying day for the Pan American Games in Santiago.

Panama beat Peru 9-0, limiting its rival to only three hits, to achieve their first victory of the tournament.

Harold Arauz pitched five innings in which he gave up three hits and struck out four to score the victory, combined with two other relievers who struck out four in two innings, allowing no hits and no runs.

Offensively, Adolfo Reina stood out, going 2-for-3 with a run scored and three RBIs, Jorge Bishop went 2-for-2 with two RBIs, while Luis Castillo went 1-for-3 with one run scored and two RBIs, finally Jhadiel Santamaria went 2-for-3 with two RBIs in the contest.

For its part, Argentina maintained its undefeated record by defeating Honduras 4-2, team that still has not achieved its first victory.

For Argentina, Thomas Cuenca scored the victory by throwing a shutout inning with three strikeouts in relief, followed by Miguel García who also pitched a shutout inning to score the save.

On the offensive side, Nicolás Alvarado stood out by going 1-for-4 with two RBIs, while Talevi Exequiel went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Julián Pedrouzo also hit 1-for-3 with a run driven in.

On Monday, Canada will face Peru as a visitor at 11am, and in the afternoon Panama visits Honduras at 3pm.
