Cuba defeats Colombia in a close duel and ties the lead with Brazil

(Press Release; WBSC AMERICAS BASEBALL).- The Cuban team defeated Brazil 4 to 3 in its debut in the Pan American Games, relying on the opportunities produced by the offense.

Colombia did not give up at any point, despite starting behind on the scoreboard, tied at one in the second, then Cuba took advantage again in the third and Colombia responded in the fourth.

With the score tied at three in the fifth, Cuba took advantage of a bases-loaded situation to score the difference with a ground ball by Yadil Mujica that brought Luis González to the plate with what would be the difference 4 to 3.

Carlos Martínez of Colombia hit the first home run of the tournament and ended up going 1-for-2 with a run scored, an RBI and a walk.

Roberto Baldoquín also broke the deadlock for Cuba, going 1 for 4 with a score and RBI.

Also for Colombia, Fabián Pertuz blew the fence with one man on base, in total he went 1 for 3 with a run scored and two RBIs.

After completing the first day in Group A, Mexico and Panama at the top with one victory each, Chile and the Dominican Republic with one defeat each. While in Group B, Brazil and Cuba are at the top with one victory each, while Venezuela and Colombia are without victories.
