Cuba qualifies for the Baseball5 World Cup: Venezuela, Mexico and Puerto Rico compete for two remaining spots

(Press Release; WBSC AMERICAS BASEBALL).- The Pan American tournament, qualifier for the Baseball5 World Cup, has its first qualified team from America after the second day of play and the double victory by Cuba.

The world champions beat Puerto Rico in two sets, first by a 21-0 shutout and then by an 8-4 score in a game in which Orlando Amador was the MVP.

Cuba secured their spot later, by beating Mexico in three sets, first 17 to 0, falling in the second 5 to 2 and winning in the third 20 to 0, being the first time that the cubans haven given up a set, and with Briandy Molina as the best in the series.

With a 4-0 record, Cuba remains undefeated, Venezuela managed to climb to second position, falling first to Mexico, but then beating Puerto Rico, leaving a 2-2 record.

Mexico surprised Venezuela in front of their home crowd by beating them in two sets, first by a score of 3 to 2 and then by a score of 6 to 2, with Yahir Ochoa being the best in the game.

But the locals recovered by beating Puerto Rico and thus leaving Puerto Ricans and Mexicans with a 1-3 record. The shutout of the Puerto Ricans in two sets, 11 to 0 and 3 to 0, featured Luis Márquez as the MVP.

The final day of the round-robin will take place this Friday, Cuba seeks to remain undefeated to get into the final, while Venezuela, Puerto Rico and Mexico are still fighting for a place in the Hong Kong World Cup.
