Puerto Rico opens the U23 World Cup Qualifier against host Nicaragua

(Press Release; WBSC-AMÉRICAS BASEBALL).- The U23 World Cup starts on November 24 with Puerto Rico visiting the host Nicaragua in Masaya, at the Roberto Clemente stadium.

That is just part of the tournament that continues between November 25 and 30 in Nicaragua, hosting a total of ten nations, which together with the host, will fight for those four spots in the 2024 World Cup of the category in China.

The U23 World Cup Qualifier will have Mexico as part of Group A, along with the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Argentina and Nicaragua. In Group B you will find Venezuela along with Cuba, Panama, Colombia, Curacao and Costa Rica.

The last U23 Qualifier tournament was held in Mexico, and the host team emerged victorious in the final against Cuba, while Nicaragua won the bronze, with those three countries, along with the fourth in the tournament Venezuela, being the participants for America in the last World Cup.

The last World Cup in the category was dominated by Asian countries, with Japan, Korea and Chinese Taipei occupying the podium, but in 2021 it was Venezuela, Mexico and Colombia that took the medal positions.

The objective will be to reach the highest continental event and seek to return to the winners' podium. Four qualified teams from this tournament will have the opportunity to reach the U23 World Championship.
