Nicaragua remains undefeated and Costa Rica levels its record in the Central American qualifier

(Nota de prensa; WBSC-AMÉRICAS).- El clasificatorio Centroamericano que se realiza en Nicaragua tendrá su jornada final de la ronda de grupos este viernes, los anfitriones siguen invictos, mientras que Costa Rica niveló su record.

(Press release; WBSC-AMERICAS).- The Central American qualifier that takes place in Nicaragua will have its final day of the opening round this Friday, the hosts remain undefeated, while Costa Rica leveled their record.

Costa Rica scored five runs in the eighth inning for the comeback win against Guatemala 5-3 and thus level their record at 2-2, while Guatemala falls to 1-2.

For its part, Nicaragua maintained its undefeated path in the tournament by shutout against El Salvador 8-0, a game in which they left their rivals in just three hits.

Guatemala had taken a 1-0 lead in the eighth, but Costa Rica reacted with five, even though their rival responded with two in the ninth, it was not enough to prevent the victory of the Ticos.

For Costa Rica, Manrique Mora stood out offensively by going 1-for-4 with a run scored and another driven in, while Emilson Juarez went 0-for-2, but received two walks, scored one and drove in another. Miguel Montano scored the victory by pitching eight innings in which he allowed only one earned run, with two hits, striking out three.

Nicaragua continues to show that it is the favorite of this tournament by leaving its rival in three hits and winning its third game of the tournament, consolidating itself at the top of the standings.

Five Nicaraguan pitchers combined for the shutout, Kevin Gadea striking out eight in five innings, allowing just one hit and one walk. Four other relievers allowed just two hits, no runs, with six strikeouts.

Offensively, Isaac Benard went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, two walks and three RBIs. Willians Vásquez went 2-for-3 with runs scored and RBIs and Elmer Reyes went 1-for-2 with two runs scored.
