Dominican Republic and Colombia face off with the gold medal on the line

(Press Release; WBSC-AMERICAS).- Dominican Republic dominated against Venezuela and Colombia had no problem with Peru, to set the stage for mondays confrontation for the gold.

The Dominican Republic had no problem taking revenge on Venezuela by beating them 14-2, they scored three in the first inning and never looked back with a sixteen-hit attack.

Wilder Pujols homered, drove in five runs and scored two while going 2-4, Darlin German went 2-4 with three runs scored and two driven in and also homered, meanwhile Rando Moreno got only one hit in five turns, but it was another homer.

Colombia shutout Peru 8-0 behind Gabriel Hernández five innings, he conceded four hits and a walk, but struck out four to win the game and put his nation in a position to play for the gold.

Luis Castro went 3-4 with two runs and one driven in, Jesus Posso also scored two runs and went 1-4. Meanwhile David Lozano drew four walks and had one run batted in.

The Caribbean nation stays on top of the standings with 4-1, Colombia now is 3-1, Venezuela dropped to 1-3 and Peru now sits at 1-4.

This means that on monday the gold medal will be on the line when the Dominican Republic faces of against host Colombia. If the Caribbean nation wins, they will secure the gold, meanwhile the hosts will secure the championship by defeating he island nation and then taking care of Venezuela on tuesday.

On the other hand, Peru will duel with Venezuela. For Venezuela the chance to go for gold has evaporated, but they still have a chance to go for silver if Colombia loses against Dominican Republic and then Venezuela can beat Peru on monday and then the host nation by KO on their last meeting on tuesday.
